28 Hours in Rio

(Location: Rio, Brazil)

“You probably want to go away for a few days.” That is what our realtor recommended. We were selling our house, and the market was hot, so she expected back to back showings for a few days straight. Logical people would go to Galveston. We decided to go to Brazil.

Our destination was the Pantanal, where we hoped to see jaguars. To get there, we could fly via Rio or Sao Paulo. We opted for Rio, and given it was an overnight flight, we wound up with a day and a half in this gorgeous city.

  • We stayed at the Sheraton, which is about 20 minutes from the action of Ipanema and Copacabana.
  • We visited Christ the Redeemer FIRST thing in the morning (as in, we were at the van departure spot at 7:30 and they open at 8). We had the whole place to ourselves though for 20 minutes so it was definitely worth it.
  • After breakfast, our next stop was Sugarloaf Mountain. We had about an hour wait for the gondola but the view was definitely worth it.
