Scuba Diving in Grand Cayman
(Location: Grand Cayman)
Fired up from our trip to Roatan, we were excited to go scuba diving in Grand Cayman. Unfortunately it was an El Nino year, which made the diving conditions pretty poor. We had fun at stingray city though 🙂
Would the rain ever stop? Luckily we had a cute little condo right in middle of Seven Mile Beach so there were plenty of non-diving diversions. The Seabreeze Apartments, at under $200 high season, is hard to beat. We had a full kitchen, living room, and separate bedroom. It was huge and clean. The property fronted a lovely, uncrowded part of seven mile beach. There was a shopping center across the way that had a Dominos, Subway, and convenience store, and we could walk anywhere we wanted to go.
Basically, the weather was poor (supposedly due to El Nino). We only dove two days – and it wasn’t as good as everyone suggests. Harumph.
The stingray dive was definitely the highlight, especially because two people our boat returned with fairly substantial stingray hickeys 🙂 Note to self – listen to the dive briefing about NOT wiping fish on your arms.
The only memorable dinner was at the Wharf. It was cool to see the tarpon arrive for their 9pm feeding. If we ever go back, we’ll definitely skip Grand Cayman and head for Cayman Brac.
