The Definitely Great Ocean Road
Location: Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia
In January of 2014, my mom came to visit so I was able to tick off many local sightseeing opportunities, one of which was a day trip to the Great Ocean Road.
From Wikipedia:
The Great Ocean Road is an Australian National Heritage listed 243 kilometres (151 mi) stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia between theVictorian cities of Torquay and Allansford. Built by returned soldiers between 1919 and 1932 and dedicated to soldiers killed during World War I, the road is the world’s largest war memorial. Winding through varying terrain along the coast and providing access to several prominent landmarks, including the Twelve Apostleslimestone stack formations, the road is an important tourist attraction in the region.
The scenic route is a very curvy four-five hour drive, though you can shave off an hour by taking the wonderfully straight highway back. It can be done in a day trip, but it would be much better to break up the journey with an overnight somewhere along the way.
