Sea Lions and Dolphins in South Australia
Still confined to our mostly Covid-free island, we headed to South Australia for a holiday in April of 2021. We flew into Adelaide and stayed at the Intercontinental (#points).
We spent our one free day on a tour of the Barossa with Scott Ninnis. Our request was “off the beaten track red producers” and he did not disappoint. We spent the morning at Lindsay Wine Estate and Cirillo Estate Wines. Both were OUTSTANDING.
We had an amazing lunch and more wine at Saltram, and then wrapped up the day at Hayes Family and Ballycroft.
Wine tasting behind us, we flew to Kangaroo Island for three nights in Emu Bay. We stayed at an AirBNB with a tremendous view, which was four times to large for the two of us, but all we could find.
We spent two days with Kangaroo Island Marine Adventures swimming with dolphins. The conditions were a lot better than when we visited in October – the water was warm, calm, and clear and the dolphins were amazing.
We flew from Kangaroo Island to Port Lincoln via Adelaide. There’s no airport security in Kangaroo Island, so we had to go to practically exit the airport and then come back in through security in Adelaide. We had a tight connection because our flight was delayed, but it turned out to be the exact same plane so we made it with plenty of time.
We stayed at an absolutely charming AirBNB in a quiet neighbourhood close to the town centre.
We spent three days with Calypso – our first two days were absolute magic with the sea lions. There was no wind and the water was crystal clear and glass flat.
Our third day was an unsuccessful cage diving trips. The weather was perfect, but no sharks turned up which means a voucher to return 🙂
